Biography

Timothy L. Urban holds the J. Bradley Oxley Chair in Business Administration and is Professor of Operations Management at The University of Tulsa. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in operations management, operations research, and business statistics, and has been the recipient of several teaching awards, including the university-wide award. In addition to serving on the faculty at TU, he has served as department chair and interim director of graduate business studies. Prior to coming to the university, Tim spent ten years in industry with General Dynamics, Johnson & Johnson, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

His current research interests include inventory and production modeling, facility design, sports analytics, and stochastic vehicle routing. In 2015, Tim was ranked as one of the top-100 contributors to the operations-management research literature (according to an article published in the International Journal of Production Research). He was the founding editor—now Honorary Editor—for the International Journal of Inventory Research, currently serves as North American Regional Editor for the International Journal of Operations and Quantitative Management, and has been a Guest Editor for the International Journal of Production Economics, the International Journal of Production Research, and the International Journal of Manufacturing and Technology Management. He is a member of INFORMS, MSOM, POMS, IISE, and ISIR, and is a registered professional engineer.
